You may notice that a couple of things are not changed into a dark colour scheme — in particular scrollbars and the window title bar. This has been quite a popular user request — the ability to show all the controls on one monitor and show just the captured image on a second monitor.
As you can see below, two monitor view is particularly helpful in Live Stacking mode because it allows room for the various Live Stack control and information tabs to be split up so that more than one is visible at a time.
It also has a pair of testing simulated cameras that can be used to try out the features of the program on cloudy nights.

The Folder Monitor Virtual Camera adds another way to get images into SharpCap — it can read existing or newly added image files from a directory opening up new ways to use SharpCap.
As a couple of examples:. The resolution and colour space values are also determined by the contents of the image files being loaded and cannot be changed. Additionally dark subtraction and flat frame correction can be applied and the frame rate limit can be set. Image files are always processed in date order starting with the oldest first. The resolution and colour space values are selected from the first frame processed, and files that have different resolutions or colour space settings will be skipped.
If SharpCap runs out of files in the folder or if there are no image files in the folder initially then it will wait for new image files to be added and load them when they appear. Many EAA Electronically Assisted Astronomy enthusiasts are now keen to run their entire imaging session within a live stacking tool such as SharpCap — they are also often keen to avoid any post-processing in other applications.
The Gaussian Blur noise reduction and Unsharp Mask sharpening are basic tools which you would find in most image manipulation applications. They are relatively quick to calculate. With careful adjustment of the parameters, these simple tools can suffice to give useful image improvements in many cases. Bilateral Filter noise reduction which can lower noise with less blurring effect than the Gaussian Blur option. This tool will tend to remove noise within areas of similar colour without blurring an area of one colour into an adjacent area of another colour.
The radius option selects over how large an area in pixels the smoothing is effective while the luminance tolerance specifies how different colours have to be for the algorithm to try to preserve the differences between them. Setting the luminance tolerance too high will make this algorithm give results similar to the gaussian blur option. Weiner Deconvolution is an advanced image sharpening algorithm that uses an estimate of the PSF point spread function of the image to try to correct for blurring introduced by optics, seeing and stacking.
The estimate of the PSF is calculated from the shapes of detected stars in the stacked image so this sharpening feature will only work for images containing stars. Note that both of the advanced algorithms require more computation than the simple ones, so using a fast PC is advisable, particularly for high resolution cameras. Like the white balance controls, saturation adjustment is a SharpCap Pro feature.
The resulting pattern can look like rain slashing downwards, hence the name. When the dither interval timer expires, SharpCap will wait for the current frame to end, stack it, pause live stacking and send a message to PHD2 to begin the dither movement. Once PHD2 reports that the dither movement has settled, SharpCap will wait for the frame currently in progress to end and then unpause live stacking and start the dither timer running again.Additionally, the use of a memory buffer minimizes amp-glow, which is caused by the slow transfer speeds when the camera is used with a USB 2.

Just a quick question, can the camera be set to take dark frames automatically and apply them to each image taken.
If so what are the limitationif any, in term of time or any other you may know. Thank you. Luc 0 0 Sam Wen — March 17, :. Good to know tilt adjustment is available! I think you should put that in description it is a good feature! I placed an order, when will the new batch ship? Thanks again!
Sam, is the front plate tilt adjustment? Hi, I would know if Asi in binning 2 the information about color remain.I've been pursuing this hobby for the past two years and like most, I started small with the skytracker and have been learning in small steps and growing in equipment. During this time, i have found two game changers for me that i wish i would have known about and acquired earlier. For me, it's been the Polemaster and AstroTortilla. I just found AstroTortilla a few weeks ago and WOW - it saves me so much time centering up my targets with my goto mount and i must say, the biggest game changer of all for me.
Result: what a dozen years ago required a big mount like a Losmandy G11 with autoguiders cables and big batteries all weighing a couple hundred pounds and more yes I still have this stuff and linear post processing with darks and flats and long exposure times can now be done in a fraction of the time with a portable system including lens, camera, tracking mount, tripod and batteries under 25 pounds, with simple acquisition without autoguiders and simple post processing.
Thanks Roger - I've recently abandoned the A7S due to background patterns that is extremely difficult to avoid. Your dark current suppression article as it relates to the 7DMII convinced me to go that route so i ordered one this week. Do you still consider it to be the best camera on the market as you stated in your article?
Just curious as to if you still feel the same as i know it's been a while since you did that test. The Sony A7S has definitely been a game changer for me but for all the wrong reasons. Instead of spending my free time making beautiful images, I now seem to spend most of my free time analysing, diagnosing and trying to overcome inherent problems in this flawed camera:. I'm even now struggling against yet another artifact that I see in all my images but haven't yet publicized. Going back a few years, my game changer has to be the Astrotrac mount.
Since I've had the system it has helped me take some pretty amazing images of deep space, the kind of images I could have only dreamt of earlier.
I'm curious about the Polemaster because on a recent astro trip to France a friend of mine took his along to use with his Astrotrac. He explained how it worked but I didn't really have time to look at it properly. I wondered if the Polemaster might be a good thing for someone likes me who images on the move.
Can you recommend? For the data that I have measured or seen others measure for dark current, yes it is the current leader for which we have data. But Canon has a number of newer cameras that we do not have data for. So there might be better cameras in the Canon line.
Some of the data on the internet on Nikons Sony sensors plot between the 7D2 line and the other Canon cameras in Figure 5 on the above link, so other cameras are getting close to the 7D2 line.
No camera is perfect for the data I have seen. The 7D2 sometimes, but not always, has a horizontal band show up in a stretched stack on my camera and one other user has emailed me about his camera with the problem.
It is an easy fix by selecting the band, which is maybe 50 pixels wide do not remember exactly and raising the offset, but we shouldn't have to do that. I feel the problem is happening more on my camera and wonder about radiation damage from dozens and dozens of airport X-ray machine exposures over the last 2. The level difference in this band is only a few electrons, and oddly only in one channel, and it is not in the same location from session to session.
Which implies it might also be an artifact that is being triggered in the raw converter. If you're having to put up and tear down your rig every time you go out, you really should either get a polemaster, or a guide camera and lens to use with sharpcap's polar alignment routine. You can get closer than that, but the "fine tuning" controls on the SA wedge are pretty coarse, so it's really irritating.
Both use the same method to determine polar error, FWIW, but the polemaster is one discrete unit that's easy to deal with, while the other option is usable for guiding. I already had a suitable camera and lens to use with Sharpcap, so that's what I'm using.
Ok thanks. I will have to check it out. There is a good discussion at Cloudy Nights on the factor by which the sky noise should swamp the read noise:. Once in possession of sky brightness data you need the details of your sensor and optical system: F-ratio, Pixel size, Sensor type Colour or Monochrome and Quantum Efficiency. What I get from that is Sony A7Riii sensor has extremely low read noise and is pretty free to chose from ISO up until you blow out star colour.
Canon graphs seem to favour using a higher ISO which I have read before. Again you'd have to watch for star colour loss. The Photons to photos data on input referred read noise does make it very clear which sensors are good and which not so good, and which iso settings to use. If you click on the camera colour icon in the legend it brings up a table of iso setting against read noise; saturation; dynamic range.
This makes it the performance of a sensor even more clear. The system as I described can be used well to evaluate exposure settings for a given camera and lens. A second example is with my D camera. The read noise of the sensor is effectively invariant 2. Consequently, I choose a 60s exposure time and a relatively low iso setting and find that I get very rich star colours and low noise. The Bortle numbers provided by the calculator seem out of whack with those from lightpollutionmap for low SQM values.
For example from lightpollutionmap:.
Bortle class 3. The calculator seem would seem to agree with this reference: Sky Brightness Nomogram. I'm guessing that the SQM figure from light pollution map is just the light pollution not total sky brightness, but the "Sky Magnitude" field in the calculator is total sky brightness?SharpCap, настройка, съемка.
There is a lot of information in the help section of the light pollution map about how it all works. Andy, this calculator has no input for a focal length. To calculate photon flux, a FL assumption must be made.
Got any idea what is being used? There is no input for lens focal length because the photon flux from sky background is independent of focal length. The lens with mm focal length has twice the aperture diameter and four times the area of the other; but it also receives light from a quarter of the sky area. The increased sky area exactly cancels out the reduced aperture area.
All lenses with the same f-number, whatever the focal length, capture the same photon flux. Can you point to the math used?SparkoCam is an easy to use webcam and video effects software for broadcasting and applying live webcam effects to video chats and recordings.
